Important Changes During this Flu Crisis ...

Bishop Richard Malone reminds parishioners who feel ill with flu-like symptoms, especially fever, to stay home, consult your physician and do not attend Church celebrations until fully recovered. For healthy parishioners, you are encouraged to use the utmost caution during Mass. For example, during the sign of peace, shake hands only with those who are also willing; or greet them with words of peace or nod acknowledgement. Also, during this time of heightened concern, you are strongly urged to receive the Body of Christ in the hand rather than on the tongue. Until further notice, the cup will be shared only with the willing. This decision will be reassessed regularly. A small amount of consecrated wine will be available for individuals who have Celiac disease. These individuals should decide whether they are comfortable receiving from the cup at this time and make arrangements with their priest. The Diocese of Portland will continue to monitor this situation and publish information for you as necessary.
